Dan Tenaglia was born and raised in Florida, USA and attended the University of South Florida in Tampa. He graduated in 1998 with a Bachelors degree in Biology.
After college Dan moved to Missouri, USA and began taking pictures of plants in his free time. In 1999 he started his award-winning website – – in response to a lack of good quality plant pictures on the internet. Since that time the Missouri website has grown to be one the most visited plant identification websites in cyberspace.
Dan and his wife Karen moved to Alabama, USA in 2003. They currently reside in Auburn where Dan is a custom furniture maker and his wife attends Auburn University.
In 1999 Dan started taking pictures using a Fuji point-and-shoot film camera. Disappointed with the results, he quickly upgraded to a Canon AE1 Program 35mm SLR. Finally, after spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on film developing, Dan upgraded to a Sony F707 Cybershot digital, which he still uses today. All of the pictures you see on this site were taken with the F707.
Look for Dan hanging off a rock face, crouched down on the side of the road, or dangling from a tree limb taking plant pictures, you never know where he’ll show up next.
