Other information – This attractive species can be found scattered throughout Alabama. The plant is easy to identify because of its very thin leaves and spreading phyllaries. This is a striking plant that would do well in a garden setting.
The genus name Liatris is of unknown derivation.
The species epithet squarrosa derives from the Latin “squarros” meaning “scaly, rough” referring to the phyllaries.
