Origin – Native to North America.

Other information – This goldenrod can be found scattered throughout much of Alabama. THe plant can be identified by its rhizomes, densely pubescent stems, and rugose leaves. The upper cauline leaves are sessile to very short petiolate.
The genus name Solidago derives from the Latin “solidus” meaning “whole” or “to make whole” and the Greek “ago” meaning “leader”. The name Solidago means “uniter (used as a healing medicine)”.
The species epithet rugosa derives from the Latin “rug(os)” meaning “a wrinkle, fold” referring to the texture of the leaf surfaces.
