Other information – This species can be found throughout much of Alabama but is apparently absent from the southern 1/4 of the state. The plant can be identified by its sessile flowers, erect sepals, and broad, mottled leaves.
The genus name Trillium comes from the Latin “trilix” meaning “triple” referring to the parts of the plant being in three’s.
The species epithet cuneatum derived from the Latin “cune” meaning ” a wedge” probably referring to the base of the leaves.
