Other information – This species has only been reported in one Alabama county. The plant is quite striking and has become increasingly rare in the wild due to harvesting by collectors. This species can be identified by its large flowers, which stand erect and above the leaves. The flowers are white at first at become pink with age.
The genus name Trillium comes from the Latin “trilix” meaning “triple” referring to the parts of the plant being in three’s.
The species epithet derives from the Latin “grand” meaning “large” and “flor” meaning “flower”.
