Other information – This showy species can be found mainly in the northern half of Alabama. This is an easy species to identify becasue of its cordate leaves, hirsute stems, and large racemes of white flowers. The flowers appear just with the new season’s leaves.
The genus name “Tiarella” derives from the Greek “tiar” meaning “a headress (turban)” and the Latin “ell” meaning “small”. The name is confusing and perhaps pertains to the flowers in bud.
The species epithet cordifolia means “heart-shaped leaves”.
