Other information – This little species can be found in just a handful of Alabama counties. The plant is easy to identify becasue of its ascending stems, hastate leaves, and tiny flowers. The flowers are one at each axil and paired at each node.
The genus name Scutellaria derives from the Latin “scutell(a)” meaning “a dish” in reference to the expanded fruiting calyx.
The species name racemosa derives from the Latin “racem(o)(us)” meaning “a cluster” referring to the flowers.
