Other information – This species an be found scattered throughout Alabama. This species resembles many other violets but can be distinguished by its leaves, which gradually taper to an acutish tip. This characteristic, along with the plants moist to wet habitat, help to differentiate it from other very common species of violets.
The genus name Viola is the classical Latin name for the Violets.
The species epithet affinis derives from the Latin “affini” meaning “allied, related” referring to the plants resemblance of many other species.
